In recent years, Chinese automotive brands such as BYD, GWM, Geely, and Chery have rapidly expanded into international markets. As global sales and ownership of Chinese-made vehicles—particularly new energy vehicles—continue to grow, the ability to retrieve EDR data from these vehicles is becoming increasingly important for crash investigation, forensic analysis, insurance claims, and vehicle safety research.
However, many traditional EDR retrieval tools were primarily developed for European, American, Japanese, and Korean vehicles, with limited coverage of Chinese brands and Chinese-made models. TraceTech™ HEDR was developed to help address this growing global demand.
Focused on Chinese Brands and Chinese-Made Vehicles
HEDR focuses on Chinese automotive brands and Chinese-made vehicles, with its EDR database continuously expanded and updated. It currently covers multiple Chinese brands, including BYD, GWM, Geely, and Chery, with new vehicle models and protocols added through regular software updates.
For countries and regions where Chinese vehicle imports and ownership are increasing, HEDR helps crash investigators, forensic experts, insurance professionals, and vehicle safety researchers retrieve and analyze crash-related vehicle data more effectively.
In addition to Chinese vehicles, HEDR also covers selected mainstream European and American models, as well as certain models from Hyundai, Kia, and Tesla. This provides users with a broader and more flexible EDR retrieval solution.
Vehicle support may vary depending on the model, production year, and vehicle version. Users are therefore advised to confirm the latest supported vehicle list before performing a retrieval.
Local Storage of EDR Data
EDR data retrieved by HEDR, together with the generated reports, can be stored locally on the device without relying on cloud storage.
For police departments, forensic laboratories, crash investigation units, and other organizations with strict data-security requirements, local storage helps reduce the risk of data being transmitted externally. It also allows users to retain and manage case data independently in accordance with their own evidence-management and information-security procedures.
A Flexible and Transparent Upgrade Model
HEDR offers an annual software upgrade service that regularly adds support for new brands, vehicle models, and protocols while continuously improving system performance.
The annual upgrade service is optional. If a user chooses not to purchase the following year’s upgrade, the HEDR device and all previously available vehicle-reading functions will continue to operate normally. The device will not be disabled; it will simply stop receiving newly added vehicle coverage and future software updates.
This flexible model protects the user’s long-term investment while allowing each organization to decide whether to upgrade based on changes in its local vehicle market and operational requirements.
Preparing for a Changing Global Vehicle Market
As Chinese vehicle exports and global ownership continue to increase, EDR data retrieval from Chinese brands is becoming an important part of the international crash-investigation market.
With a strong focus on Chinese brands and Chinese-made vehicles, together with expanding coverage of selected European, American, Korean, and other models, HEDR provides a practical, flexible, and sustainable EDR data retrieval solution for crash investigation, forensic analysis, insurance claims, and vehicle safety research worldwide.
