Power cable connections in metro infrastructure can be difficult to assess from the outside. A visual inspection shows the condition of the surface, but it cannot provide a view of the structure inside the connection.
In this field application, the inspection team used the TRACELINE™ PX3 Portable X-Ray System with an XRS3 pulsed X-ray source to examine a metro power cable connection.
The site photo shows the cable arrangement and the connection being inspected. The X-ray image below provides an additional view of its internal structure.
With portable digital radiography, the team can acquire and review images at the inspection site. This helps them assess components that are difficult to examine through visual inspection alone and decide whether further evaluation is needed.
